The 2011 Southlake Carroll High School boys cross country team stands as one of the most dominant squads in Texas high school history, achieving remarkable success both at the state and national levels.
At the 2011 UIL 5A State Cross Country Championships, the Dragons delivered a historic performance by scoring just 20 points—a record-setting best score for the 5A division. This dominant showing placed them well ahead of the second-place team, Houston Strake Jesuit, which scored 110 points. This would become the first State Championship for the boys team and set the tone for the years to come.
The team’s excellence extended beyond state borders. They were ranked No. 2 nationally and secured a runner-up finish at the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN), marking the highest placement for a Texas boys’ team at the time
Among the standout athletes was junior Trevor Gilley, who played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Gilley boasted a personal best of 4:09.37 in the 1600 meters, achieved during the 2011 track season, and was instrumental in leading the team to national prominence.
The 2011 Southlake Carroll boys cross country team not only dominated their competition but also set a standard of excellence that continues to inspire future generations of runners.
